Who Would Have Thought?
Who would have thought that I'd be doing what I love for 40 years? Most guys get to work at it for a couple of years and then move on to a "real job." Well, except for the 4 years I spent in hotel and restaurant management, and those were awesome years in themselves, I've been playing music and entertaining people for 40 years. And I've got to tell you that it feels as great today as the first time I took the stage at Mallory Square in Key West, Florida in 1967. I can honestly say that if I had my pick of anything in the world to be doing today, it would be just exactly what I'm doing. In fact, I think I'm enjoying it more now than ever before. At this age I realize how special it is to still have the gifts, skills, and the interest and enthusiasm of the audiences.
I just finished a double today, and I'm sitting in top of the world. I hope and pray I can last another 10 or 20 years. I've got to say, life is good.
